MMO Titanium Anode VS Platinum Coated Titanium Anode

Mar 25, 2024 Leave a message

In the current industrial production industry, the anode that protects the cathode is one of the most widely used and most effective anti-corrosion products in industrial production. Common negative electrode materials include graphite, titanium, etc. Titanium is often coated with coatings such as MMO, platinum, ruthenium or iridium, which can extend the life of the titanium anode and reduce costs.

Here's the difference between MMO and platinum-coated titanium anodes.

Technical features
Both have excellent antibacterial and anti-corrosion properties; the electrodes have long service life; and can be used for higher current density and high current efficiency.

Catalytic activity
Platinum-coated electrodes are well known for high peroxidation potential electrodes. The MMO anode is a low oxygen evolution potential electrode, and the oxygen evolution area of the anode is easier to precipitate. Therefore, the cell voltage during electrolysis is relatively low, thus saving energy.

Cost-effectiveness
The price of MMO titanium electrode is about 80% of that of platinum-plated electrode, and it has better electrochemical stability in alkaline copper electrolyte. They also have excellent electrolytic activity and durability.

No pollution
MMO oxide is a fairly stable oxide. It is almost insoluble in all acids and alkalis, and the oxide coating is approximately 20-40μm. The total amount of oxide coating is low, so MMO anodes do not contaminate the plating solution, much like platinum electrodes.

Chloride
In the sulfuric acid electrolyte, copper ions tend to concentrate at the edges of the holes and accumulate rapidly, resulting in very uneven distribution of copper accumulation and possible screen burn-in, which is undoubtedly a heavy impact on electroplated circuit boards. The presence of chlorides in the current environment can cause the platinum layer to peel off after a period of time. At this time, mmo coated anodes are suitable.

At present, sacrificial anode protection technology has been developed and widely used in the corrosion control of steel pipes, cables, steel docks, ships, tank bottoms, coolers and other metal structures in soil, seawater, fresh water and chemical media. Ehisen can design and customize coated titanium anodes in a variety of sizes. If your production needs it, please contact us for a quote and customization service.
