What Is a Platinized Titanium Electrode?
A platinized titanium electrode is a titanium-based electrode coated with platinum. The titanium substrate provides mechanical strength, corrosion resistance and structural stability, while the platinum coating provides high conductivity and strong electrochemical performance.
Compared with pure platinum electrodes, Pt coated titanium electrodes can help reduce material cost while maintaining stable electrode performance in many electrochemical applications.
They are widely used in hydrogen production, PEM electrolyzers, alkaline water electrolysis, electrochemical cells, water treatment equipment, laboratory testing systems and customized industrial electrolysis equipment.

Applications of Platinized Titanium Electrodes

Hydrogen Production
Platinized titanium electrodes can be used in hydrogen generation systems where stable conductivity, corrosion resistance and reliable electrochemical performance are required.
The electrode structure can be designed as plate, mesh, felt, porous plate or custom titanium parts according to the equipment structure and operating conditions.
For hydrogen production projects, buyers usually need to confirm current density, electrolyte type, operating temperature, voltage range, electrode spacing and expected service life before choosing the coating thickness and electrode form.
01
PEM Electrolyzers
In PEM electrolyzer-related applications, titanium materials are often used because of their corrosion resistance in acidic environments. Platinum coating can help improve conductivity and reduce contact resistance in selected electrode or component designs.
Ehisen can discuss platinum coated titanium mesh, titanium felt, porous titanium plate and custom Pt/Ti structures based on your drawing and technical requirements.
For PEM-related projects, please provide your cell design, working area, operating current density, contact requirements, coating thickness requirement and inspection standard.
02
Alkaline Water Electrolysis
For alkaline electrolysis systems, electrode performance depends on electrolyte concentration, temperature, current density, coating condition and working area design.
Platinized titanium electrodes can be customized for alkaline water electrolysis equipment, hydrogen generators and industrial electrochemical systems.
03
Electrochemical Testing and Research
Pt/Ti electrodes are also used in laboratory electrochemical cells, pilot testing systems, research equipment and small-scale electrolysis systems.
For research projects, we can support small-batch production, custom size electrodes and sample testing before batch orders.
04
Water Treatment and Electrochemical Oxidation
Platinum coated titanium electrodes can be used in some water treatment, electrochemical oxidation and disinfection-related systems, depending on the electrolyte, pH, chloride content and current density.
For water treatment applications, coating selection must be based on the real working medium. In some chloride-containing environments, MMO coatings such as Ru-Ir or Ir-Ta may also be considered.
05
Principle of producing hydrogen-rich water through electrolysis
-
The process of electrolyzing water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen using the principle of electrolysis. Products that produce hydrogen rich water through electrolysis are relatively popular. The series of products include hydrogen-rich cups, hydrogen-rich water machines, hydrogen ventilators, beauty instruments, etc.The initial series of hydrogen rich water products are generally products that do not separate hydrogen and oxygen and have relatively low hydrogen content. Many companies use electrodes coated with ruthenium and iridium mixed oxides.Later, with the research and application of DSA insoluble anode materials, titanium platinum-coated anodes were increasingly used in electrolytic production of hydrogen-rich water due to their good electrocatalytic activity. What plays a key role in the quality of hydrogen-rich water cups is Core component - titanium electrode.

How to Choose the Right Platinized Titanium Electrode
Choosing the right platinized titanium electrode is not only about platinum coating thickness. The final performance depends on the substrate, coating process, operating environment, current density and electrode structure.
Before quotation, please confirm the following information:

Why Platinum Coating Thickness Matters
Platinum coating thickness directly affects electrode cost, conductivity, corrosion resistance and service life.
A thinner platinum coating may be suitable for light-duty electrochemical testing or low-current systems. A thicker coating is usually required for more demanding environments, higher current density or longer service life expectations.
However, thicker coating is not always the only solution. The final electrode performance is also affected by:

That is why we recommend selecting Pt coating thickness based on real operating conditions, not only by product name.
What role does the titanium electrode play in the hydrogen-rich water cup?

The hydrogen-rich water cup uses titanium platinum-plated anode, which is platinum-plated on the titanium substrate. It uses electrolysis and SPE technology to separate hydrogen and oxygen. The water that needs to be electrolyzed enters the anode chamber of the electrolyzer. After electricity is turned on, the water immediately decomposes into 4 A positively charged H, and two oxygens with a -2 valence. The negative oxygen ions decomposed into then release electrons at the anode to form oxygen, which is discharged from the anode and carries part of the water into the water tank.Hydrogen protons, in the form of hydrated ions, pass through the ion membrane under the action of the electric field force and reach the cathode to absorb electrons to form hydrogen gas. They are discharged from the cathode chamber and enter the water to generate hydrogen-rich water.
The use of titanium based platinum plated electrodes can overcome the passivation on the surface of the titanium electrode sheet to form an oxide layer, overcome the problem of slow reaction speed caused by the increase of electrolysis time in traditional electrodes, and stabilize the hydrogen production content. It is an ideal electrode material according to current technology.
